Our Story

Disc Golf & High Fantasy

It all started, as many modern fairy tales do, with a swipe. Out of all the infinite variables in the universe, James and Jillian’s lives cosmically aligned in a single, quiet moment on a glowing screen. Although, you could argue that the story doesn’t truly begin there. Without James and Jillian’s independent journeys through love, loss, and adulthood, their paths would have never intersected on that fateful night.

That night was July 24th, 2024, which has forever been deemed their Cosmic Anniversary.

James and Jillian’s bond was immediate. They shared a love for stories of fantasy and other worlds through movies and books. They quickly became parents to each others respective dogs and cats. James introduced her to his favorite summer hobby, disc golf, which soon became a weekly tradition. Jillian, in turn, motivated James to pursue his motorcycle endorsement, opening the door for the two of them to experience new journeys and adventures on two wheels.

James and Jillian lived far apart. The distance between Westport, Massachusetts, and Groton, Connecticut, should have made things harder. But James didn’t seem to notice—or perhaps he did, and chose not to care.

Because after long night shifts at the shipyard, he would still get in his car (and sometimes his motorcycle) and make the journey just to see her. Just to sit with her. Just to exist in the same space—even if it meant turning around and doing it all again the next day.

Most weekends consisted of a round or three of disc golf, taking turns reading a book aloud while the other worked on a jigsaw puzzle, watching movies, sharing meals, and dreaming about the future.

Along the way, James and Jillian encountered personal trials—each becoming a hero in the other’s story. They remained steady, supportive, and unwavering during each other’s times of need.

Once again, the stars seemed to align, gracing James and Jillian with perfect timing. Everything fell into place just as it was meant to. Together, they sold their respective homes and began a new chapter in Mystic, Connecticut—James’s childhood town.

But not just his town.

A home where he spent many of his childhood years. His grandparents’ home, just west of the Mystic River on a quiet street. A home he spent much of his childhood years in. A home filled with memory, warmth, and history.

One evening, James did what men do when they realize they’ve found something they never want to lose. He asked Jillian to stay—not just in the house, not just in this chapter, but in all the remaining, unwritten chapters. On the patio of that memory-filled home, surrounded by the lingering presence of everything that had come before them—and everything still waiting ahead—James proposed. And Jillian, ready to begin that next chapter—that next journey, that next adventure—and to never face anything alone again… said yes.
